Medical Assistant
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant at Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (SOSI) plays a vital role in supporting the medical team and ensuring the smooth operation of patient care. This position involves a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, including preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians, and managing medical records. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, updating medical histories, and documenting chief complaints.
- Assist physicians during patient exams and procedures, including setting up equipment and ensuring a sterile environment.
- Administer injections, apply dressings, and provide basic wound care as directed by the physician. • Perform diagnostic tests and collect specimens for lab testing.
- Manage patient flow, including rooming patients, assisting with mobility, and coordinating with the front desk for scheduling.
- Update electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and in a timely manner.
- Educate patients on post-visit care instructions and provide information on health maintenance.
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use.
- Order and maintain medical supplies and equipment inventory.
- Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
- Perform general office duties as needed, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling referrals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred; non-certified candidates with significant experience will also be considered.
- Prior experience in an orthopaedic or clinical setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and basic computer skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday. Hours may vary based on clinic needs.
