Andreas Sauerbrey, M.D.

Dr. Andreas M. Sauerbrey is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a practice focusing on shoulder and elbow injuries. He performs 300 to 400 shoulder surgeries annually. He is fellowship-trained in Upper Extremity and specialty-certified in Sports Medicine. He specializes in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy and reconstruction, mountain trauma and biologic treatments including platelet- rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors. Additionally, he acts as a scientific advisor and instructor to several prominent orthopaedic companies and industries.

Dr. Sauerbrey has been a member of the US Ski and Snowboard Medical Pool and has been traveling with the US Freestyle Ski Team since 2002. He was nominated and chosen as the US Freestyle Ski Team Head Orthopaedic Physician from 2007 until 2011, accompanying the team during the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, and the World Championships in Inawashiro, Japan in 2009 and in Deer Valley, Utah in 2011.

Dr. Sauerbrey joined Orthopaedics of Steamboat in 2001. He is one of the founders and current president of Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (SOSI). “My intention is to bring state-of-the-art medicine to Steamboat in an efficient and affordable way. Together, we ensure the latest, most innovative technology available for both operative and non-operative procedures. We believe patients and their families should have the best care possible at all times.”

Dr. Sauerbrey finished medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a hand surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He has also earned his Sports Medicine Specialty Certificate through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Sauerbrey practices at SOSI locations in Steamboat Springs and Craig, Colorado. He also provides medical outreach care to populations in Lander and Rock Springs, Wyoming, as well as Holdrege, Nebraska. Dr Sauerbrey is originally from Bend, Oregon, and is glad to live in a small town and interact with people on a more personal level. He enjoys all outdoor activities including mountain biking, fishing and hunting, as well as hiking with his family.  His wife, Lisa, is from Anchorage Alaska and they have two children; a son, Max and a daughter, Morgan.
