Physician Assistant – Hand and Upper Extremity

Position Summary

As a Physician Assistant in Hand and Upper Extremity, you will work directly with our orthopaedic surgeons to evaluate, diagnose, and treat conditions related to the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. This position involves patient care in both the clinic and operating room settings, providing pre- and postoperative care, conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating treatment plans. You will also assist in surgery and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries or conditions.

- Assist in the operating room, including preoperative planning, surgical assistance, and postoperative management.

- Conduct physical examinations, obtain medical histories, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.

- Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic studies.

- Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, surgeries, post-operative care, and rehabilitation options.

- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations.

- Participate in the development of patient care protocols and treatment strategies.

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, to optimize patient care.

- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

- Prior experience in orthopaedics, specifically hand and upper extremity care, is preferred.

- Surgical first-assist experience is preferred.

- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative environments.

Work Schedule

 This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday with periodic on-call nights and weekends required.
