Physician Assistant – Total Joints

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant in Total Joints will work closely with orthopaedic surgeons to evaluate, diagnose, and treat conditions related to the hip, knee, and shoulder, with a primary focus on joint replacement and reconstruction. Responsibilities include providing patient care in both the clinic and operating room settings, offering pre- and post-operative care, conducting comprehensive physical exams, interpreting diagnostic tests, and collaborating on the development of individualized treatment plans. The PA will assist in joint replacement surgeries, manage patient recovery, and ensure continuity of care throughout the rehabilitation process.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hip, knee, and shoulder related injuries or conditions.

- Assist in the operating room, including preoperative planning, surgical assistance, and postoperative management.

- Conduct physical examinations, obtain medical histories, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.

- Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic studies.

- Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, surgeries, post-operative care, and rehabilitation options.

- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations.

- Participate in the development of patient care protocols and treatment strategies.

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, to optimize patient care.

- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

- Prior experience in orthopaedics is preferred.

- Surgical first-assist experience is preferred.

- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative environments.

Work Schedule

 This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday with periodic on-call nights and weekends required.
