Aaron Black, M.D.

Dr. Aaron Black is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with additional expertise in orthopedic trauma. He will see patients at Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute (SOSI) in both Steamboat Springs and Fraser.

Originally from Minnesota, Dr. Black moved to Evergreen, Colorado at age 10 and developed a lifelong passion for mountain sports. He attended Colorado Academy, where he competed in cross-country and swimming and worked as a ski instructor at Copper Mountain.

Dr. Black earned his undergraduate degree in Biology and Italian from Colorado College before completing a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences at Loyola University Chicago and his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, followed by a sports medicine fellowship in Taos, New Mexico.

Throughout his career, Dr. Black has worked with athletes of all levels, from high school teams to semi-professional and professional organizations. He has served as the orthopedic consultant for Taos Ski Valley Ski Patrol and has been a team physician for the U.S. Ski Team since 2017.

Dr. Black specializes in knee reconstruction and repair, ACL injuries, knee replacement, complex rotator cuff surgery, shoulder instability, shoulder replacement, and cartilage restoration procedures. He also treats orthopedic trauma, including complex fractures.

An avid endurance athlete, Dr. Black enjoys skiing, mountain and road biking, running, swimming, and mountaineering. He is excited to return to Colorado’s mountain communities and help patients get back to the activities they love.
